XABI ALONSO has asked Real Madrid to bounce back quickly after their surprising 2-0 loss to Celta Vigo, as they prepare for an important Champions League game against Manchester City. The defeat at the Santiago Bernabéu has left Real Madrid four points behind Barcelona in the league and has continued their tough run, with only two wins in the last seven matches.
The game ended with Real Madrid playing with nine players after Fran García and Álvaro Carreras were both sent off, which added to the team's frustration ahead of their match against Pep Guardiola’s City.
After the game, Alonso said the team was “angry” and disappointed with how they played, but he urged them to move on quickly.
“We have to turn the page as quickly as possible,” Alonso said to reporters, stressing that the team needs to use the Champions League game to “get this bad taste” out of their mouths.
Despite growing talk in the media about his future, Alonso said the upcoming match against City isn’t a deciding factor for his job.
The coach made it clear his focus is on winning points and giving a strong response.
“We want to show we can play a lot better than we did today,” he said, pointing out the need for a strong performance as pressure mounts on the squad in both the domestic and European competitions.
