NEYMAR TO UNDERGO KNEE SURGERY AFTER HELPING SANTOS AVOID RELEGATION

NEYMAR is going to have knee surgery after playing through pain to help Santos get a big 3-0 win against Cruzeiro on Sunday. This win was important because it kept Santos in Brazil's top football league. The surgery brings more uncertainty to Neymar's chances of being part of the 2026 World Cup team.

Neymar came back to Santos in January after a time in Saudi Arabia. He played a key role in the team's strong finish to the season, scoring five goals in his last four games. However, he only played in 20 of Santos' 38 league matches because of repeated injuries.

After the game, Neymar talked about how he had been physically struggling for weeks.

"I came here to help in any way I could," he said. "Without the support of the fans, I wouldn't have been able to play these matches. I need to rest, and then we will have the knee surgery," he added. He didn't say what kind of surgery it would be or how long he would need to recover.

Neymar hasn't played for Brazil in two years because of ongoing injuries.

In October, Brazil's coach Carlo Ancelotti said Neymar needs to be fully fit to have a chance of being selected for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in Canada, Mexico, and the United States from June 11 to July 19.
