SOUTH KOREAN WOMAN JAILED FOR EXTORTING FOOTBALL STAR HEUNG-MIN SON OVER FALSE PREGNANCY CLAIM

A SOUTH Korean woman has been sent to prison for four years after trying to get money from Heung-Min Son, a top football player for the national team and MLS, by lying about being pregnant with his child.

The woman, whose last name is Yang, previously asked Son for money to keep the fake pregnancy a secret. According to Yonhap News Agency, she got 300 million won, which is about $205,000, from Son after threatening to reveal the story.

She then tried to get an extra 70 million won. A man in his 40s, who was accused of helping her, was given a two-year sentence by the Seoul Central District Court. The court said the woman and the man used Son’s popularity and his position as a public figure to pressure him, making him very upset.

They also said Yang never confirmed who the baby’s father was, which made her threats not true. Son’s team hasn’t said anything about the court’s decision, but they said before that he knew the woman but was targeted with made-up information.

Son now plays for Los Angeles FC in Major League Soccer after moving from Tottenham Hotspur earlier this year.
