AFC LEOPARDS end their long wait for a derby win as coach Fred Ambani says his team is ready to win the FKF Premier League title. The win came after a tough 1-0 victory over Gor Mahia at the Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday. More than 18,000 fans watched as Leopards ended their five-match winless streak against their biggest rivals in the league.
Forward Julius Masaba, who joined from Kariobangi Sharks, scored the winning goal in the 98th minute of the Mashemeji Derby.
He headed in a cross from Randi Bakari at the far post. This was Leopards' first win over Gor Mahia since 2023 and gave the team new confidence in their title chase.
Ambani praised his young players for their desire, effort, and teamwork, saying their performance showed they are ready for the next challenge.
He also stressed the importance of experienced players like Masaba, James Kinyanjui, and Kyce Odhiambo in helping the team handle the pressure of the big game.
The win moved AFC Leopards to sixth in the 18-team FKF Premier League table with 17 points, just three points behind the top team, Kenya Police FC, who are the league leaders and reigning champions.
Ambani now says the focus is on beating all the teams above them as they work towards achieving their long-awaited title goal.
