WEST Africa's ECOWAS bloc has deployed standby forces to Benin in response to a coup attempt.
Elements of the standby force from Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, and Ghana have been sent to support the government and the Republican Army of Benin to maintain constitutional order and the territorial integrity of the Republic of Benin, according to a statement from the bloc.
Following a foiled coup attempt in the country, soldiers from Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, and Ghana have been deployed to Benin in response to the coup attempt.
Benin's President Patrice Talon addressed the nation on state television, stating that the situation is "totally under control."
