WAYNE ROONEY has taken issue with Mohamed Salah's response to being left out of Liverpool's starting lineup, saying the Egyptian forward is "destroying his legacy" at the club. Salah, who has not played in Liverpool's last three Premier League games, became vocal after the team's 3-3 draw with Leeds United on Saturday.
Salah, who signed a two-year contract extension in April, has become a key player for Liverpool over the past eight seasons, scoring 250 goals and winning two Premier League titles.
However, this season has not been going well for the forward, with only five goals in 19 appearances across all competitions so far.
On his podcast, Rooney urged Salah to take a step back and let things cool down, suggesting he take a break for the Africa Cup of Nations.
"He is absolutely destroying his legacy at Liverpool," Rooney said. "It would be sad for him to throw it all away. He's gone about it all wrong."
Currently, Liverpool are in ninth place in the Premier League, 10 points behind the league leaders, Arsenal, after 15 games.
Rooney also warned that Salah's comments might have long-term consequences. "If anything, he has thrown Liverpool under the bus with his words," he said. "I'm sure he will regret saying what he has."
