THE U.S. Embassy in Tanzania has issued a security advisory for its citizens, following the events that took place on December 8 and 9 of this year. According to the embassy’s statement, the incidents could have started as early as December 5 and may have caused impacts on various activities within the country.
This advisory comes after reports of violence during the October 29 elections, which included attacks on civilians, disruptions on the internet, and a significant disruption in transportation.
As a result, U.S. citizens in Tanzania are advised to stay cautious and follow safety information.
The advisory highlights the risk of potential attacks, the possibility of being targeted from outside, internet disruptions, travel by boat to Zanzibar being affected, the cancellation of safari tours, and some road transportation being blocked.
It also mentions that the situation could change without prior notice.
Human rights organizations have reported that hundreds of people were affected during the election-related violence, although the Tanzanian government has not officially provided the exact number of fatalities.
