TINUBU APPOINTS FORMER ARMY CHIEF CHRISTOPHER MUSA AS NIGERIA’S NEW DEFENCE MINISTER

PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu of Nigeria has named former head of the military, General Christopher Musa, as the new Minister of Defence. This happens at a time when the country is dealing with a lot of large-scale kidnappings. The decision comes as security issues are becoming more serious.

Musa was in charge of the armed forces until October, when Tinubu removed several high-ranking military officers after reports suggested there might have been a coup attempt.

The government later denied these claims. Musa's return to a major security position shows that the administration is focusing again on making the country more stable.

A few weeks after changes in military leadership, Nigeria experienced a series of mass student kidnappings, which has put more pressure on the government to take stronger steps in ensuring security.

Experts think Musa's experience could be very important in leading a more active fight against insecurity.

This move follows the resignation of the previous Defence Minister, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, who left due to health issues.

The change in leadership is expected to help Nigeria in its efforts against armed groups and the increasing number of kidnappings.
