BURNLEY'S Hannibal Mejbri has been banned for four matches after he spat at Leeds United fans during a Premier League game in October. The Football Association announced the decision on Friday after reviewing the case with an independent commission.
The incident happened in the 67th minute of Burnley's 2-0 win. The Tunisia international spat at the away supporters. Mejbri admitted to the charge, which led to both the ban and a £15,000 ($20,000) fine. The FA called the action unacceptable and confirmed the punishment in an official statement.
The ban comes at a tough time for Burnley, who are struggling near the bottom of the league. They are currently 19th, having lost five games in a row, which is putting more pressure on the manager and the team. Mejbri's absence will make things harder for the midfield, especially during a busy part of the season.
Burnley will face Newcastle United at St James' Park on Saturday. With poor form and some key players missing, the team will be hoping for a positive result to keep themselves from going deeper into relegation trouble.
