THE ZANZIBAR Ports Corporation (ZPC) Has Announced An 80% Reduction In Wharfage Charges For All Food Products Entering The Country Through Ports Managed By The Corporation, Including The Dhowshed Area Overseen By The Zanzibar Multipurpose Terminal (ZMT).


The Decision, Approved By ZPC, Is Part Of The Zanzibar Government’s (SMZ) Efforts To Control The Rising Prices Of Essential Goods Following The Recent General Election.

Speaking To Journalists On November 7, 2025, ZPC Director General Akif Ali Khamis Said The Discount Applies To All Ports Under The Authority’s Management — Including Malindi, Mkokotoni, Mkoani, Wete, And Dhowshed. The Move Aims To Ease The Burden On Food Traders, Stabilize Market Supply, And Help Citizens Access Food At Affordable Prices.

Akif Added That ZPC Recognizes Its Responsibility In Supporting The Nation’s Economic Stability Through The Port Sector. The Discount Will Be Effective For Two Weeks, From Monday, November 10 To November 24, 2025.
