AN Official Report Released On Tuesday, November 11, Confirmed That Bad Weather Caused The Military Helicopter Crash In Ghana On August 6, 2025. The Crash Killed Eight People, Including Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah And Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed. Investigators Said The Helicopter Flew Into Low Visibility, Hilly Terrain, And A Sudden Downdraft That Made It Lose Altitude.
Helicopter Was Old But Airworthy. The Investigation, Led By Retired Pilot Captain Paul Forjoe, Found That The 12-Year-Old Chinese-Made Helicopter Was Technically Safe To Fly. However, It Did Not Have Important Safety Systems Like A Terrain Awareness And Warning System (TAWS), Which Could Have Helped Avoid The Crash.
Problems In Aviation Infrastructure
The Report Also Highlighted Bigger Issues In Ghana’s Aviation System. Navigational Tools Were Limited, Pilots Lacked Enough Simulator Training, And There Were No Real-Time Flight Tracking Systems. These Gaps Made Flying In Difficult Conditions Much Riskier.
Lack Of Weather Information Made Things Worse
Investigators Noted That The Pilot Did Not Have Access To Weather Updates Along The Flight Path. This Missing Information Added To The Danger And Contributed To The Tragic Accident.
