THE East African Community (EAC) Saw Strong Growth In International Trade In The Second Quarter Of 2025, Showing The Region’s Economic Strength. According To The Eac Quarterly Statistics Bulletin Released On November 10, Total Trade For The Eight-Member Bloc Reached $38.2 Billion, Up 28.4% From Last Year.
Exports Lead The Growth
Exports Rose Sharply By 40.5% To $18.6 Billion, While Imports Grew 18.8% To $19.6 Billion. This Helped Shrink The Trade Deficit From $3.2 Billion To Just $0.9 Billion, Signaling Improved Trade Balance For The Region.
Regional And Global Trade
Trade With Other African Countries Jumped 42.9% To $9.3 Billion. Intra-Eac Trade Also Rose 24.5% To $4.6 Billion. The Bloc Continues To Strengthen Ties With Comesa And Sadc, Which Contributed 9.9% And 15.2% Of Trade, Respectively.
Top Trading Partners And Challenges
China, Uae, South Africa, And Singapore Remained Key Partners. Main Exports Included Copper, Precious Metals, Coffee, Tea, And Mineral Fuels, While Imports Were Mainly Petroleum Products, Machinery, And Vehicles. Inflation In The Region Stayed High At 22.7% In June, Mostly Due To Rising Prices In South Sudan And Burundi.
