📰: TANZANIA _ INEC CLEARS 10 WARDS, 7 COUNCIL CANDIDATES 🌏

THE Independent National Electoral Commission (Inec) Has Announced Major Changes To The List Of Electoral Areas For The 2025 General Election, Including The Abolishment Of 10 Wards, The Disqualification Of Seven Councilor Candidates, And The Removal Of 292 Polling Stations That Were Located In The Abolished Wards.

Speaking Through An Official Public Statement On October 12, 2025, Inec Chairman, Court Of Appeal Judge Jacobs Mwambegele, Stated That The Changes Were A Result Of Directives Issued By The Relevant Ministry Through Government Notices No. 596 And No. 600 Dated October 3, 2025. These Notices Declared Certain Areas As Reserved For Refugee Settlements And Abolished Several Wards In The Katavi And Tabora Regions.

The Abolished Wards — Which Had Candidates Whose Nominations Have Now Been Revoked — Are Litapunga, Kanoge, Katumba, Mishamo, Ilangu, Bulamata, Ipwaga, Along With Milambo, Igombemkulu, And Kanindo, The Latter Three Of Which Had No Candidates.

“In Its Meeting Held On October 6, 2025, And Following Government Notice No. 604 Dated October 10, 2025, The Commission Made The Following Decisions: To Remove The Ten (10) Wards Abolished By The Minister Responsible For Local Government From The List Of Electoral Wards For The 2025 General Election; And To Revoke The Nominations And Remove From The List The Seven (07) Councilor Candidates Who Had Been Nominated In The Affected Wards,” Said Judge Mwambegele.

Following These Changes, The 292 Polling Stations Previously Located In The Abolished Wards Have Been Officially Removed. However, 292 New Polling Stations Have Been Established In Nearby Wards To Ensure That Voters Can Continue Exercising Their Constitutional Right To Vote.

“A Total Of 106,288 Voters Who Were Registered At The Abolished Polling Stations Have Been Relocated To 292 Newly Established Polling Stations In The Wards Of Mtapenda, Uruwira, Nsimbo, And Ugala In The Nsimbo District Council Of Katavi Region. Other Relocation Wards Include Sasu, Ilege, Uyowa, Makingi, And Silambo In The Kaliua District Council Of Tabora Region, As Well As Tongwe Ward In The Tanganyika District Council Of Katavi Region,” Said Judge Mwambegele.
