OPERATIONS At The Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) Are At A Complete Standstill Following A Major Security Breach Caused By A Massive Influx Of Mourners During The Arrival Of The Remains Of Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
According To A Notice By The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA), The Breach Has Led To A Temporary Suspension Of All Flights, Citing An “Ongoing Security Situation” Triggered By The Arrival Of Odinga’s Body.
“Kenya Civil Aviation Informs The Public That Operations At Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Have Been Temporarily Suspended Due To An Ongoing Security Situation Following The Arrival Of The Remains Of The Late Rt Hon Raila Odinga, Former Prime Minister Of Kenya,” Read The Notice.
The Incident Occurred Just After The Plane Carrying Odinga’s Remains Landed At JKIA Shortly After 9:30 A.M. The Former Prime Minister Died Yesterday Morning In India From A Cardiac Arrest Suffered During His Morning Walk.
KCAA Noted That Emotional Mourners, Who Gathered At The Airport To Receive The Body, Overwhelmed Security Personnel.
“A Large Number Of Mourners Gained Access To Restricted Areas, Prompting A Precautionary Closure To Allow Security Teams To Restore Order And Ensure Safety,” The Notice Added.
The Unprecedented Scene On The Tarmac Forces The Airport’s Closure As Security Teams Move In To Clear The Area And Re-Establish Control.
In Response To The Chaos, The Aviation Authority Advises The Public To Steer Clear Of The Airport Vicinity Until The Situation Normalizes.
“Members Of The Public Are Advised To Remain Calm And Avoid The Airport Area Until Further Notice,” Added The Statement.
The KCAA Further Provided A Timeline For The Resumption Of Services, Assuring That Normal Operations Will Resume Once The Airport Is Declared Secure In The Next Two Hours.
Following The Security Operations At JKIA, The Body Of The Former Prime Minister Is Now Being Transported To The Lee Funeral Home Ahead Of The Final Journey To His Rural Home In Bondo. The Nation Prepares For His Burial, Which Is Scheduled For This Sunday.
