NICOLAS SARKOZY LAYS BARE HIS DISAGREEMENTS WITH MACRON IN HIS BOOK "A PRISONER'S DIARY"

THIS is definitely not a good way to be remembered in his country's history. Nicolas Sarkozy is the first French leader to end up in prison. The former president was jailed last October after being sentenced to five years for conspiracy related to the financing of his presidential campaign through Libyan funds. He was released from La Santé prison on Monday, November 10, after spending 21 days in detention. The Paris Court of Appeal made the decision to put him under judicial supervision instead of keeping him in prison.

While he was in prison, Nicolas Sarkozy stayed busy by writing a book called "A Prisoner's Diary."

In this book, the former Élysée Palace resident talks about his disagreements with Emmanuel Macron. He said he started distancing himself from Macron after the Parliament was dissolved in June 2024. "Since his disastrous decision to dissolve the National Assembly in 2024, our relationship had become strained. I didn't understand, much less accept, what I considered a whim that does as much harm to France as to its author," Nicolas Sarkozy writes in his book.

Recently, the former French president was invited to the YouTube channel Legend, where he expressed that he fully accepts his opposition to Macron's decision.

"This decision is a disastrous one that has done a lot of harm to the country, since it has plunged it into the period of uncertainty and chaos that we see today.

A disastrous decision for the president who, since then, has had a lot of trouble regaining the trust of the French people around him," said the Paris native.
