MADUEKE and Martinelli scored amazing goals as Arsenal beat Club Brugge 3-0, keeping their perfect record in the UEFA Champions League league phase. Mikel Arteta made five changes from the team that lost to Aston Villa, but Arsenal showed good early play.
Martin Odegaard tested Dani van den Heuvel, who was making his UCL debut after Simon Mignolet got injured during warm-up.
Club Brugge held their own, with Aleksandar Stanković hitting the post with a long-range shot.
Arsenal had better chances, with Piero Hincapié’s instinctive shot hitting the post and Viktor Gyökeres’ header bouncing back. Hincapié then tried another header, which was blocked by Hans Vanaken, and Van den Heuvel saved Gyökeres’ header. Carlos Forbs was a danger on the other side, but his shot was blocked by Hincapié and saved by David Raya.
Stanković had another chance, but his shot went wide.
Both Stanković and Christos Tzolis had shots saved as Club Brugge tried to find an equalizer.
Arsenal started the second half strongly.
Madueke added to his tally within two minutes of the restart by heading in a cross from Martín Zubimendi. Gabriel Martinelli then became the first Arsenal player to score in five straight UCL games. He cleverly broke away from Hugo Siquet and Onyedika before curling a brilliant shot into the top corner.
Tzolis tried to create chances for Club Brugge, and his corner found Brandon Mechele, whose shot was blocked by Myles Lewis-Skelly.
Tzolis then shot wide.
Gabriel Jesus was surprised when his shot hit the crossbar.
Still, there was much to celebrate as 16-year-old Marli Salmon made his first-team debut. Arsenal became the second English team in history to win 10 straight UCL group games, going top of the table with three points. Club Brugge remain winless in this competition, sitting 30th and three points away from a play-off spot.
