IT'S well known that Benin's president, Patrice Talon, narrowly avoided a coup d'etat on Sunday, December 7, 2025. More than a week later, the special prosecutor from the Court for the Repression of Economic Crimes and Terrorism (CRIET) started questioning the first suspects involved.

This group includes 30 military members and one civilian, all arrested in connection with the failed coup.
They have been charged with "treason," "murder," and "attack on state security."
After their hearing, the public prosecutor issued arrest warrants.
The defendants, who are handcuffed in pairs, were taken in three vehicles yesterday morning, Tuesday, December 16, and are being transported to prison facilities where they will stay until further legal actions take place.
