CHINA CALLS ATTENTION TO JAPAN'S INTENDED MILITARY BUILDUP, TROUBLEMAKING

A spokesperson from China's Foreign Ministry on Thursday called attention to whether Japan is deliberately causing issues and making nearby provocations in order to justify its own military expansion and overseas missions.

The remarks were made in response to a question about a land lease agreement reportedly signed by Japan's Defense Ministry, allowing the deployment of a mobile surveillance radar unit on Okinawa's easternmost island.

The radar is intended to monitor the activities of Chinese aircraft carriers and planes in the waters between Okinawa's main island and Miyako Island.

"At the same time, it should be emphasized that countries have the right to navigate and fly over relevant waters and airspace in accordance with international law," said Guo Jiakun during a daily press briefing.

He noted that due to Japan's history of militarism and aggression, its actions in military and security matters are closely watched by its Asian neighbors and the global community.

The Japanese side has been increasing military deployments near China's Taiwan region, and even claimed plans to deploy mid-range missiles.

"This time, they went even further by placing a radar unit and troops to secretly monitor their neighbor," Guo said.

"Considering the incorrect and dangerous statements by Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi regarding Taiwan, we must ask whether Japan is stirring up trouble and provocations right next door to create an excuse for its military buildup and overseas missions.

Is Japan once again heading down the wrong path of militarism, the same path pushed by right-wing forces? We urge Japan to learn from history," Guo added.
