The alarm was raised by the victim's father, who immediately filed a complaint when his child went missing.
According to the initial investigation, the suspect took advantage of the girl's innocence as she played near his home around noon. An eyewitness said the man first lured the child into a shop by offering her sweets and then dragged her toward the construction site.
It was the alertness of a neighbor that stopped the worst from happening.
The neighbor, who knew the man for his use of cellulose-based products, noticed his suspicious behavior and quickly informed the girl's mother. Together, they rushed to the construction site where they heard the child's cries.
The suspect, known to be dangerous, was caught off guard by the mother's shouting and escaped by jumping out of a window.
The young victim was found inside, alone, shaken and in a state of shock.
The quick action of the officers from the Diamaguène Sicap Mbao police station helped them locate the suspect quickly within the Abdou Ndiaye neighborhood.
During the arrest, the police found a bottle of vodka and a screwdriver used as a weapon.
When questioned, the suspect gave completely confused answers, possibly due to alcohol or the influence of psychotropic substances.
He was taken into custody on several serious charges, including kidnapping, unlawful confinement, attempted rape of a minor under 15, illegal possession of a bladed weapon, and public intoxication.
The girl was immediately placed in protective care and taken to a health facility for a full gynecological examination to assess the extent of the abuse.
