USSIAN President Vladimir Putin has celebrated what his military leaders say is the full takeover of the eastern Ukrainian city of Pokrovsk, calling it a major win after a long and tough campaign. He said this achievement will support Moscow's wider goals in the war.
Russia, which calls the city Krasnoarmeysk, has struggled against Ukrainian forces since mid-2024 as it tried to take control of Pokrovsk, a key logistics center for Ukraine’s military. The fight for the city has been one of the most intense in the area.
In a video shared late Monday by the Kremlin, Putin, wearing a military uniform, thanked top commanders for what he called a significant progress. “This is an important direction. We all understand how crucial it is,” he said to them.
If the capture is true, experts say Russia would now have a strong position to push further north towards the two main cities still held by Ukraine in the Donetsk region: Kramatorsk and Sloviansk.
