TEN members of one family lost their lives in a terrible road accident on Sunday, December 14, 2025, late at night on the Kisii-Kisumu Highway in Homa Bay County. The crash occurred near the Chabera Trading Centre on the Sondu-Oyugis Road, where a passenger matatu hit a lorry head-on. The family was traveling back from a wedding in Kakamega at the time.

All ten people inside the vehicle died immediately. Six other passengers were badly hurt and taken to Rachuonyo South Sub-County Hospital. The lorry driver ran away, and police are now searching for him as they investigate the incident.
Local leaders have offered their sympathy to the families affected and are asking drivers to be careful, especially on busy highways at night.
The event shocked the community and brought attention to road safety issues across the country.
