FORMER ACT Wazalendo Party Leader, Zitto Kabwe, Has Issued A Strongly Worded Statement Condemning The Killings He Called The “October Massacres” That Occurred In Tanzania Following The October 29, 2025 General Election, Comparing Them To The Historic Tiananmen Square Incident That Occurred In China In 1989.
In His Statement Issued On November 13, 2025, Zitto Said He Was Deeply Saddened By What He Called “A Nightmare That Swallowed The Entire Nation,” Explaining That The Blood Of Innocent Tanzanians Has Been Shed.
“The Hearts Of Tanzanians Are Bleeding, The Country Is Wounded. These Brutal Killings That Took Place In Mwanza, Mbeya, Arusha, Dar Es Salaam And Songwe Have Broken Families, Destroyed Communities And Buried The Peace We Were Proud Of,” Zitto Wrote.
He Said That During The Protests Held On October 30, 2025 In Kigoma To Protest The Election Results, He Was Arrested And Detained At The Central Police Station, And That Is When He Began To Receive Reports Of Deaths And Violence That Were Ongoing In Other Parts Of The Country.
In Addition, He Has Called For An Independent And International Investigation Into The Killings, Suggesting That The Leadership Of The Investigation Be Led By The United Nations (UN) Or The African Union (AU), To Ensure That The Truth Is Known And Those Responsible Are Held Accountable.
“We Need An Independent Truth And Reconciliation Commission, Compensation For The Families Of Those Who Lost Their Loved Ones, And Clear Accountability From Those Who Ordered It To Those Who Carried It Out,” He Said.
Zitto Also Stressed That The Leaders Of The Defense And Security Agencies Should Resign Immediately, Saying They Have Turned Into “Animals That Scare Citizens Instead Of Protecting Them.”
Zitto Has Called The October 29 Incident “The Greatest Shame For The Nation Since Independence,” Emphasizing That As A Retired Soldier Of The National Building Force (JKT), He Finds It A Great Humiliation To See Citizens Being Killed.
Moving Forward, Zitto Has Called On The Government To Initiate National Reconciliation Talks, Aimed At Writing A New Constitution That Will Lay The Foundation For True Democracy And Give Citizens Real Power To Determine Their Future.
