THE SHINYANGA District Court Has Sentenced Mackighty Johnstone Julius, 21, To Life Imprisonment For The Rape Of A 17-Year-Old Girl. He Had Faced Two Charges: Armed Robbery And Gang Rape, And He Pleaded Guilty To Both.
The Incident Occurred On June 22, 2025, In Tambukareli Ward, Shinyanga Municipality. Julius And An Accomplice, Wilson Marando, Attacked The Girl After Calling Her To Retrieve A Phone That Was Allegedly Stolen. The Case Had Eight Prosecution Witnesses, And None For The Defense.
Resident Magistrate Yusuph Zahoro Cited Section 130(2)(E) Of The Law, Which States That Anyone Who Has Sexual Intercourse With A Girl Under 18, With Or Without Her Consent, Is Guilty Of Rape. Section 131(1) Prescribes Life Imprisonment For Rape, A Sentence Intended As A Warning To Other Young People.
On The Armed Robbery Charge, Julius Was Acquitted. He Had Denied Stealing The Phone, Claiming It Was His Own, And The Court Could Not Verify The True Ownership Due To Lack Of Evidence.
