MORE than 900,000 people in the eastern, central, and northern regions of the Philippines have been evacuated as Super Typhoon Fung-wong approaches the country.
The massive storm, known locally as Uwan, intensified early Sunday and is expected to make landfall in the northern province of Aurora late Sunday or early Monday.
Fung-wong hits as the Philippines is still recovering from Typhoon Kalmaegi, which caused flash floods and landslides that killed at least 224 people last week in central provinces.
After crossing the Philippines on Tuesday, Kalmaegi continued toward Vietnam, where it claimed at least five more lives, adding to the region’s storm devastation.
