PRESIDENT MUSEVENI WITHDRAWS FROM PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE IN UGANDA

PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has decided not to take part in the presidential debate that was supposed to take place between him and his main opponent, Robert Kyagulanyi, who is widely known as Bobi Wine. The debate is being arranged by Ugandan media to allow both candidates to present their policy ideas to millions of voters who are set to go to the polls in January 2026.

Museveni and Bobi Wine are two of the eight candidates who have been officially approved by the Electoral Commission to run for the presidency.

Museveni, who has been in power for almost 40 years and is now running for his seventh term, is up against a range of political opponents from different parties, including the NUP, FDC, ANT, Conservative Party, NPP, Common Man, and RPP.

During the current election campaign, key topics such as the economy, job opportunities for youth, healthcare, inflation, road development, and the well-being of the people are being highlighted as important issues.

However, some community groups have raised concerns about being left out or facing difficulties in performing their roles.

Recently, Bobi Wine’s campaign has faced incidents of violence, including a situation where police used tear gas against his supporters.

Wine has called the incident unfair, while Museveni has publicly supported his government, stating that security actions are essential to keep the country peaceful and support its development goals.
