THE Acting Chairman Of The BBC, Samir Shah, Has Apologized For What He Called A “Judgment Error” In The Editing Of A Speech By Former U.S. President Donald Trump. The Apology Comes After The BBC’s Program Panorama Aired A Version Of Trump’s Speech That Was Edited In A Misleading Way.
In A Letter To The UK Parliament’s Culture, Media, And Sport Committee, Shah Admitted That The BBC Should Have Taken “More Formal Steps” Once They Discovered The Mistake. The Edited Clips Made It Appear As If Trump Had Told His Supporters To “Fight With All Their Strength” And March With Him To The U.S. Capitol On January 6, 2021.
Trump Responded To The Issue On His Truth Social Account, Calling The Two Former BBC Leaders Who Resigned — Tim Davie And Deborah Turness — “Very Dishonest People” Who Tried To Distort The U.S. Election Results.
The BBC Received Over 500 Complaints After The Problem Was Revealed. Shah Said The Broadcaster Has Reviewed The Case And Accepts That The Way The Speech Was Edited Gave The Wrong Impression. “We Apologize For The Error In Judgment,” He Added.
