THE Tanzania Commission For Human Rights And Good Governance (THBUB) Has Strongly Condemned The Abduction And Assault Of Former Tanzanian Ambassador To Cuba, Humphrey Polepole, By Unknown Assailants On October 6, 2025, Around 8:30 P.M. In Ununio, Dar Es Salaam. The Incident Has Sparked Widespread Concern And Outrage Among Citizens.

Speaking At A Press Conference In Dodoma, THBUB Chairperson Retired Judge Mathew Mwaimu Described The Attack As A Grave Violation Of Human Rights And A Breach Of The Principles Of Good Governance. He Said Preliminary Findings Indicate That The Incident Involved Acts Of Violence And Cruelty Against Polepole, Which Amount To An Abuse Of Human Dignity.

Justice Mwaimu Emphasized That Such Actions Violate Article 14 Of The Constitution Of The United Republic Of Tanzania (1977), Which Guarantees Every Person The Right To Life, Freedom, And Personal Security. He Further Noted That The Assault Contravenes Article 13(6)(E), Which Prohibits Torture, Inhuman Punishment, Or Degrading Treatment.

THBUB Acknowledged Statements From Government Leaders, Religious Figures, And The Tanzania Police Force, All Of Whom Have Condemned The Incident. The Commission Urged The Police To Conduct A Thorough Investigation And Ensure That Those Responsible Are Brought To Justice, Calling The Attack “A Serious Affront To Human Rights And The Rule Of Law.”

In Conclusion, Justice Mwaimu Called On The Police To Strengthen Community Security Measures And Establish Early Warning Systems To Detect And Prevent Acts Of Violence And Lawlessness. He Reaffirmed THBUB’s Commitment To Work With Stakeholders To Educate The Public And Promote Peace, Unity, And Respect For Human Rights Across Tanzania.
