According To A Statement Released Friday, October 17, 2025, By Geita Regional Police Commander Safia Jongo Through The Police’s Social Media Platforms, The Crime Came To Light After The Victim Failed To Return Home For More Than Five Days.
Police Say They Received A Missing Person Report On The Morning Of October 16, 2025, Indicating That Shabani Paschal, A Farmer And Small-Scale Miner, Had Disappeared Since The Night Of October 11 Around 9:00 PM. This Prompted A Thorough Investigation.
"Following Preliminary Investigations, By 1:00 PM On The Same Day (October 16), We Uncovered Evidence Of The Murder And Arrested The Suspect, Martha Japhet, For Questioning," The Police Statement Reads.
Commander Jongo Stated That The Suspect Confessed To Striking Her Husband In The Head With A Sharp Object, Resulting In His Immediate Death. She Is Then Alleged To Have Dug A Pit Inside Their Bedroom, Buried The Body, And Covered The Spot With Soil And Sacks Filled With Dried Cassava To Conceal The Crime.
