JUST 22 Days After A Girls’ Dormitory At Mkuu Secondary School In Rombo District, Kilimanjaro Region, Was Destroyed By Fire, Another Dormitory At The Same School Has Gone Up In Flames. The Latest Incident Occurred In The Early Hours Of Tuesday, October 28, 2025, Affecting A Dormitory That Housed 160 Students.


The Previous Fire Took Place On October 6, 2025, When A Dormitory Owned By The Catholic Church And Designed To Accommodate 90 Students Was Gutted While The Students Were Attending Morning Prayers. During That Incident, All Student Belongings—Including 91 Mattresses, 46 Beds, Clothes, Notebooks, And Personal Items—Were Completely Destroyed.

According To Regional Fire And Rescue Commander Jeremiah Mkomagi, The Latest Fire Broke Out During The Night Of October 27, Causing Significant Property Damage. Fortunately, No Injuries Or Fatalities Were Reported. “We Received Reports Of A Fire At Mkuu Secondary School In Makiidi Ward, Rombo District, And Our Team Responded Swiftly,” Said Commander Mkomagi. “Our Officers Managed To Extinguish The Blaze Before It Could Spread Further.”

Commander Mkomagi Confirmed That The Cause Of The Fire Remains Unknown, And Investigations Are Ongoing To Determine The Origin Of Both Incidents. The Repeated Fires Have Raised Alarm Among Local Authorities, Parents, And Education Stakeholders, Prompting Calls For Improved Fire Safety Measures In Boarding Schools Across The Kilimanjaro Region.
