THE Tanzania Police Force In Kagera Region Has Confirmed The Arrest Of Four Senior Officials Of The Opposition Party Chadema And Three Other Party Members For Allegedly Inciting Unlawful Demonstrations.
Speaking To The Media On Saturday, October 25, 2025, Regional Police Commander Brasius Chatanda Said The Suspects Are Among 17 Individuals Currently In Custody Over Alleged Acts Of Incitement During The Ongoing Election Campaign Period.
“It Is True That We Are Holding Those Leaders Together With Three Members Of Their Party On Charges Related To Incitement To Organize Demonstrations,” Said Commander Chatanda, Adding That Police Are Still Conducting Investigations Before Submitting The Case File To The Relevant Authorities.
The Confirmation Follows A Letter Circulating On Social Media Naming Several Chadema Officials — Including Bukoba Municipal Chairperson Chief Kalumuna, National Council Member Paulo Musisi, And Kagera Regional Secretary Daniel Lwebugisa — Among Those Reportedly Detained On October 16, 2025.
The Police Statement Comes A Day After The High Court Ordered That The Detained Individuals Be Either Released Or Brought Before A Court Of Law To Face Formal Charges, Underscoring Growing Scrutiny Over The Handling Of Opposition Figures Ahead Of The October 29 General Election.
