THE Tanzania People's Defence Force (TPDF) has announced that it is closely monitoring the country's security situation as the nation heads toward the General Elections scheduled for October 28 and 29, 2025. The military has expressed satisfaction with the prevailing peace and calm during the ongoing campaign period.
In a statement released on October 16, 2025, by the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Colonel Bernard Masala Mlunga, the TPDF commended political parties for conducting their campaigns in accordance with legal requirements. The statement also praised the candidates for demonstrating tolerance and mutual respect, urging all political parties to continue promoting peace and stability throughout the campaign period, during voting, and after the elections.
The TPDF also applauded the Police Force and other security agencies for their continued efforts in maintaining national peace and order, as well as the citizens who have been participating peacefully in public political gatherings.
"The Defence Force commends citizens for continuing to exercise their fundamental right to peacefully engage in listening to the policies of various political parties through ongoing public rallies, as part of choosing leaders who will bring development," the statement read.
However, the TPDF expressed concern over what it described as an increase in inflammatory content on social media, aimed at dragging the military into political matters. It urged Tanzanians to ignore unofficial and misleading information involving the TPDF, stressing that any official communication regarding the military comes only from its Headquarters through its official channels.
“There continues to be individuals, some identifying as activists from within and outside the country, who are using social media to mislead the public by spreading inciting content that attempts to associate the military with political issues in order to further their own disruptive agendas,” the statement noted.
The TPDF reassured all Tanzanians that peace, security, and stability will be maintained before, during, and after the general elections.
