The recruitment will happen between 2025 and 2026, as stated in the Council of Ministers' minutes.
In 2025, they plan to recruit 850 young people, and in 2026, they will recruit 1,000.
The Beninese government says these recruits will not only help increase the number of soldiers but also "boost the army's ability to carry out operations."
Some specific skills are needed.
Each year, 100 recruits will be chosen based on their qualifications. These include "40 automotive mechanics, 40 drivers for both light and heavy vehicles, 10 automotive electricians, and 10 maintenance technicians for generators and solar systems."
The relevant ministers will handle everything needed to make sure the recruitment process and training go smoothly.
This decision was made after a failed coup attempt on Sunday, December 7, 2025.
