The conference, organized by Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), brought together ministerial-level officials and senior representatives from 60 countries, along with members from international organizations, civil society, and academia.
The event aimed to align strategies and move from talking about solutions to actually taking action.
In his opening speech, Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow urged for closer teamwork and faster responses to help and protect victims.
He emphasized the need to clearly separate victims from criminals, investigate and bring to justice the criminal networks, and stop more people from falling into these traps.
Delphine Schantz, the UNODC Representative for Southeast Asia and the Pacific, mentioned that the conference happened at a time when organized crime is more complex, constantly changing, and happening on a global scale.
She said this showed Thailand's dedication to working with other countries to fight organized crime.
The discussions during the conference focused on improving international investigations, cutting off the financial paths used by criminal groups, and keeping up with the advanced tools these criminal groups use.
The two-day event is expected to produce a joint statement on Thursday, showing the shared commitment of all participants to build a lasting global partnership against scams done online.
The statement will outline the results from the different discussion topics and set up a plan for future cooperation.
