SOUTH KOREA’S UNIVERSITY ENTRANCE ENGLISH EXAM SPARKS OUTCRY OVER EXTREME DIFFICULTY

SOUTH KOREA’S university entrance English exam, called Suneung, has faced a lot of backlash because this year’s test was considered extremely hard. Students said it was like trying to understand old texts, and some even called it “madness.” The exam, which is already known for being very high-stakes, led to a strong reaction across the country.

The situation got so bad that the top official in charge of the exam resigned, taking responsibility for the confusion many people felt.

This came after many students, parents, and teachers complained that the test was too tough and not up to standard.

Suneung chief Oh Seung-geol said they recognized the criticism about the difficulty level being wrong.

He explained that even though the test went through several checks, it still didn’t meet the required standards, which means the process of creating the exam is now under more scrutiny.

Students were especially confused by some of the questions, such as one about Immanuel Kant’s legal ideas and another involving terms from online gaming.

Many argued these topics were too complex or too specific for a national exam.
