Songwe Tanzania: Mobile Phone Shop Security Guard Killed, Robbers Killed in Phone Robbery Incident

The Songwe Regional Police Force has confirmed the deaths of four people allegedly involved in the murder of Wiliam Mwampashi (45), a security guard, who was attacked with a sharp object.

The Songwe Regional Police Commander, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP) Augustino Senga, said the incident occurred today, December 30, 2025, at 09:30 in the morning, when the murder of Wiliam Mwampashi (45), a security guard at a mobile phone and financial services shop owned by Gabriel Nsemwa, located in the Vwawa Main Stand area, Ichenjezya Ward, Mbozi District, Songwe Region, was reported.

He added that, during the surveillance phase, the soldiers tracked the suspects to the Ilembo area, where they found them inside a house. During the execution of their duties, an exchange of gunfire occurred between the soldiers and the robbers.

In the incident, soldiers managed to injure four (4) robbers who died while receiving treatment at the Mbozi District Hospital, namely Eliuta @Mapunda, Abdul @Chiba, Justine, and Bruce Mwasenga, all four of whom had a history of being imprisoned for 30 years for murder and armed robbery and were released on appeal.

“The suspects were committing these incidents in the Mbeya, Songwe, Rukwa, and Katavi Regions. At the scene of the incident, soldiers recovered various stolen property from the shop, which are: 30 smartphones, 172 small phones, 01 CRDB Bank POS machine, 01 locally made pistol, 01 burglary knife, 04 screwdrivers and 04 bullets and 01 bullet shell, including 02 door and lock pickaxes.” Commander Senga said.

The Police Force has called on the public to continue to cooperate by providing information on any criminal or criminal activity. The Police Force stressed that it is continuing its aggressive search to find other suspects involved in the incident so that strict action can be taken against them in accordance with the law.
