In the city of Tver, which is about 181 kilometers northwest of Moscow, seven people were hurt when drones were intercepted.

Emergency teams worked overnight to deal with the aftermath, as debris caused damage to homes.

Moscow's mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, said eight drones aimed at the capital were destroyed before reaching their targets.

The attacks led to temporary flight stops at Sheremetyevo Airport, one of the busiest in Moscow, as a safety measure.

Russia’s aviation authority also reported that several other airports across the country had to close briefly because of the drone strikes.

They said flights will return to normal once security checks are finished.
