PSG WINS FIFA INTERCONTINENTAL CUP AHEAD OF FLAMENGO ON PENALTIES

PARIS Saint-Germain made history by becoming the first French club to win a major global title. They won the FIFA Intercontinental Cup after a 1-1 draw with CR Flamengo in a penalty shootout at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan, Qatar. Flamengo had a chance to win their fifth trophy in 2025, but they fell short.

After losing the FIFA Club World Cup final, the European champions were determined not to miss out on another major trophy.

In the first half, Joao Neves hit the side netting with a free-kick from Vitinha, and Lee Kang-in curled a shot toward Agustin Rossi, who saved it.

Flamengo's goalkeeper, Rossi, gave Paris a big chance just 11 minutes in.

He tried to stop a corner but accidentally passed the ball to Paris, allowing Fabian Ruiz to score. However, the goal was disallowed by VAR, as they decided Rossi hadn't stopped the corner properly.

Paris stayed calm and eventually started to control the game.

Flamengo, who were on a seven-match unbeaten run, had their best chance when Erick Pulgar struck a clean shot through a crowd, but it was saved by Matvei Safonov.
