A special prosecutor in South Korea has asked for a 10-year prison sentence for the former president, Yoon Suk Yeol, as reported by Yonhap News Agency. The charges involve stopping efforts to arrest him after he tried to declare martial law, which failed.

The prosecutors say that the former president tried to stop investigators in January by staying locked inside his presidential home.Yoon had made a sudden late-night TV speech to announce martial law, claiming there was a danger from North Korea.
But the government later found out that Yoon's action was more about his political problems at home rather than a real threat from outside. His declaration caused big protests outside the National Assembly. Opposition lawmakers then held an emergency meeting and voted to cancel the order, which eventually led to Yoon being removed from his job.
