The prime minister showed Pakistan’s support for the Russian president, government, and people, stating that Pakistan opposes all forms of violence, attacks, and aggressive actions.
He emphasized that disagreements must be solved through dialogue and peaceful methods, and that Pakistan will keep backing international efforts to promote global peace and security.
Ukraine rejected Russia’s claims that it had carried out a drone attack on one of President Vladimir Putin’s residences.
Ukraine accused Moscow of spreading false information to justify ongoing military actions and to undermine peace talks.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov claimed that Ukraine launched an overnight attack using 91 long-range drones targeting Putin’s state residence in the Novgorod region.
According to Moscow, all the drones were intercepted by Russian air defenses, with no casualties or damage reported. Russian officials did not reveal where the president was at the time of the attack.
President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed the accusation as “typical Russian lies,” saying it was meant to derail peace efforts and give Russia a reason to keep attacking Ukraine.
He pointed out that Russia itself had bombed government buildings and civilian areas in Kyiv and other cities.
Russia is using dangerous statements to undermine the progress made in peace talks with President Trump’s team.
We continue working together to bring peace closer.
This alleged “residence attack” story is a full invention to justify…
On December 29, 2025, Zelensky wrote on the social media platform X, urging the international community not to stay silent.
He warned that Moscow was trying to stop peace efforts and stressed the risk that false information poses to diplomacy.
In a Telegram statement, Lavrov called the alleged drone strike more proof of what he called Kyiv’s “policy of state terrorism.”
He said Russia would reconsider its stance in talks, but added that Moscow still planned to continue negotiations with the US.
The dispute arose a day after talks between US and Ukrainian officials in Florida, where Zelensky met with US President Donald Trump to discuss a new peace plan.
After the meeting, Zelensky said ending the war in 2026 was possible, but highlighted that Ukraine couldn’t win without continued American support.
In an interview with Fox News, Zelensky said Washington seemed ready to take harsher economic and sanctions actions against Russia, which could help push peace talks forward.
He also mentioned the US had proposed 15-year security guarantees for Ukraine, with Trump saying agreement on that was almost final.
Still, Zelensky expressed serious doubts about Putin’s desire for peace, saying he didn’t trust the Russian leader’s intentions.
He pointed to unresolved territorial issues and the future of the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant as major problems in the talks. There has also been little progress on the Donbas region, where Russia controls most of Donetsk and nearly all of Luhansk.
Moscow has repeatedly rejected key parts of the peace proposals being discussed, showing that the gap between the two sides remains wide despite increased diplomatic contact.
