ALIKO DANGOTE, the Chairman and CEO of the Dangote Group, held a press conference on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at his oil refinery in Lagos. During the media event, the Nigerian billionaire denied claims that US President Donald Trump was upset about the creation of his oil refinery. Some people on social media had suggested that the US threats against terrorists in Nigeria were connected to the operations of Dangote's refinery.

"That's false," Dangote said.
The richest person in Africa stated that the US president is actually very happy with the presence of the refinery.
"The United States is one of our main suppliers of crude oil, which is why it's untrue to say that Trump is not satisfied with our refinery. In fact, Trump is very satisfied with our refinery because of the significance of the work being done there," the Nigerian business leader explained.
It's also worth noting that, besides the US, Dangote's refinery sources crude oil from Ghana and other countries because Nigeria doesn't produce enough domestically.
According to Dangote, his country still hasn't produced enough crude oil to meet the needs of his refinery.
