In her opening speech, Dr Ansah welcomed representatives of King Mswati III of Eswatini, who is the new chair of the SADC Organ, and Tanzanian President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, who is leaving the chair position.

She stressed that working together as a region is very important for handling political instability and keeping peace in the area.

Dr Ansah also talked about the results of a Joint Technical Fact-Finding Mission that went to Madagascar between 22 and 27 October 2025.

This team met with different groups to look into the reasons behind the protests that caused deaths and damage to property. She praised the mission team, led by Principal Secretary Mary Kachale, for being professional and dedicated.

In her final remarks, Dr Ansah asked for the quick action on the mission's suggestions and for everyone to follow the agreed-upon schedule.

She reminded everyone of Malawi's role as the current chair of the Organ, highlighted the importance of ongoing talks and monitoring, and expressed hope that the summit would be a big step towards bringing peace and stability back to Madagascar.
