The opening 11 minutes were filled with quality football, with Lyon taking the lead when Afonso Moreira scored after a fine pass from his team-mates. But Go Ahead Eagles responded quickly when Melle Meulensteen collected the ball from Corentin Tolisso, and Milan Smit calmly slotted home his eighth goal of the season. Lyon quickly regained control when Jari De Busser saved Ainsley Maitland-Niles' long shot, and Pavel Šulc followed up with an equaliser.
Lyon had more chances before the break.
Martin Satriano hit the post after De Busser saved a fine shot from Moreira. In the second half, Moreira came close again but failed to score. Go Ahead Eagles tried to fight back through Jakob Breum, whose long shot tested Remy Descamps, but they were unable to create any real danger.
Lyon controlled the game well and won their fifth match in six Europa League games.
They have a good home record in the competition this season. They are also the only team not to have conceded a goal after half-time in the UEL. The win extends French clubs' unbeaten run against Dutch sides to seven matches, with Go Ahead Eagles unbeaten in their last six away games.
