Moviegoers worldwide are returning to Pandora for the third time in twenty-five years with Avatar: Fire and Ash. This marks a 28% drop from its second weekend in theaters, indicating that Fire and Ash is performing even better than its predecessor, 2022's Avatar: The Way of Water, which saw a staggering 52% fall in its second weekend.
The third movie has achieved even greater success on a global scale, earning an additional $181 million outside the United States for an estimated total of $760 million worldwide. For Avatar: Fire and Ash to replicate the success of its predecessors, it will need to remain at the top spot for most of the upcoming year. After all, the first two Avatar films held the top spot for seven consecutive weekends and eventually made more than $2 billion apiece.
The Sully family is still grieving the events of Way of Water as the situation in Pandora worsens in the eagerly anticipated sequel to Cameron's Avatar story. Their journey takes them to a new, ferocious Na'vi tribe that worships fire in this section.

Even though Fire and Ash is undoubtedly in front of the competition, the weekend box office has room for several hits. By generating an additional $20 million in the United States, bringing its total to $321 million, Disney's smash sequel, Zootopia 2, was able to surpass the competition, which included a number of thrilling new releases.
With a billion-dollar gross over the previous weekend, only three weeks after its release, this animated picture has already become the highest-grossing Hollywood movie of the year. Its current worldwide total is a robust $1.4 billion.
With his ping-pong drama Marty Supreme, Timothée Chalamet is not just fantasizing about the future but also making it a reality. The picture has gotten off to a terrific start, grossing $27 million over the holiday weekend (including $9.7 million on Christmas Day and $17.4 million over the regular weekend), thanks to Chalamet's aggressive marketing efforts. Marty Supreme's initial limited screenings showed a strong performance, giving it the second-best opening for A24, trailing only Civil War from the previous year, which made $25.5 million in April 2024.
In addition to using innovative marketing strategies, Chalamet has demonstrated his dedication to the movie's financial success.
"This captures the essence of Marty, and I think this is a really rare film in a time when we don't see many original movies," Chalamet told IndieWire earlier this month. "It's a story about following a dream. I'm doing everything I can. In honor of Marty Mauser, I'm making every effort to advertise this as widely as possible, whether it's via Zoom calls, media appearances, or products."

Paul Rudd and Jack Black play two pals going through a midlife crisis in the meta-comedy Anaconda, which rounds out the top five. In the United States, Song Sung Blue, another well-known local release starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson, opened this weekend with a total of just over $12 million, including $7.6 million in the United States.
As of the conclusion of the year's last box office weekend, the total domestic box office, according to Comscore, is $8.76 billion, which is roughly 22% less than in 2019 and only 1.5% higher than the previous year. Annual revenues through December 31 are predicted to be $8.87 billion, which is more than the $8.7 billion predicted for 2024 but less than the original goal of $9 billion for this year.
