The 2026 New Year Honours list has shone a bright light on the worlds of entertainment and culture, with many people from film, music, comedy, and sport being honored for their positive impact on British society.

Elba started the Elba Hope Foundation and has been actively involved in anti-knife crime initiatives to offer better support and safer opportunities for at-risk youth.
In response to the honor, Elba said he accepted it on behalf of the young people whose talent and strength have helped drive the foundation’s work.
He also called for ongoing, real-world support to keep them away from violence.
In the world of music, film, and TV, Cynthia Erivo has been appointed an MBE, as has singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding, who was honored for her work as an environmental ambassador.
Other entertainment figures who received OBEs include actor and presenter Warwick Davis, author and TV personality Richard Osman, and comedian Matt Lucas, showing how more people from the entertainment industry are being recognized in the honors system.
Comedian Bill Bailey, actor Sally Lindsay, and children’s TV star Paul Chuckle were also named MBEs.
Richard Osman expressed his joy at receiving the honor, while Warwick Davis joked that it was the best thing to happen to him, even though he had appeared in Star Wars.
The list also celebrated major sporting accomplishments.
England women’s football head coach Sarina Wiegman has been made a dame, and captain Leah Williamson received a CBE. Teammates Ella Toone, Keira Walsh, Alex Greenwood, and Georgia Stanway all got MBEs after England’s success in the European Championship.
Writer and actor Meera Syal was also given a damehood, highlighting the list’s strong focus on cultural influence.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the honorees this year represent people who help build stronger communities and put the good of others before their own interests.
He described them as a reflection of a compassionate and creative Britain.
Last year’s New Year Honours honored people like Stephen Fry, Carey Mulligan, and Eddie Marsan.
