RELEBOHILE Mofokeng's extra-time goal secured Orlando Pirates their second trophy of the season, as they narrowly defeated Marumo Gallants 1-0 in the Carling Knockout final in Polokwane. The decisive moment came in the 115th minute when Mofokeng bundled the ball over the line, sealing a hard-fought victory for the Buccaneers.
The match was tightly contested, with limited scoring opportunities throughout regular time.
Pirates had the better of the first half, with a rare chance for Evidence Makgopa, but a costly error from goalkeeper Washington Arubi saw the ball fall to the opposition's Sibusiso Sikhosana, who cleared the danger.
Despite a rocky start under coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, including an early exit from the CAF Champions League, Pirates have surged into form.
With two domestic trophies already secured and the team pushing at the top of the Betway Premiership, Ouaddou has silenced early doubts and steered the Buccaneers into what looks like a genuine title challenge.
