“Procedures to complete the evidence, including obtaining his statements on the allegations, are ongoing so that other legal proceedings can follow”, the statement explained.
The Police statement came a few hours after claims spread on social media that Thadey Kweka, a Tanzanian living in the United States and described as a democracy and human rights activist, had been abducted from his home in Moshi by people allegedly armed with weapons.
It is reported that Thadey Kweka arrived in Tanzania last week to celebrate the end-of-year holidays, as well as to attend his brother's wedding in the Kilimanjaro region.
The Police Force has not provided detailed information on the circumstances of his arrest other than stating that he was arrested in accordance with legal procedures, while emphasizing that investigations are ongoing so that appropriate action can be taken in accordance with the law.
