ASTON VILLA made a big statement in the Premier League with a last-minute goal from Emiliano Buendía, giving them a thrilling 2-1 win over Arsenal at Villa Park. The victory was their sixth straight home league win and put them right in the running for the title. Both teams started fiercely, with Emiliano Martínez and David Raya making key saves early on to keep the game scoreless during a fast-paced first half.
Arsenal thought they had taken the lead when Bukayo Saka played in Eberechi Eze, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
Villa kept pushing and were rewarded in the 37th minute when Matty Cash headed home the opening goal after a cross was deflected into his path. Arsenal tried hard to respond before the break, but Martínez stayed calm and saved from Ben White and Declan Rice.
In the second half, Mikel Arteta’s team came out strong, and substitute Leandro Trossard equalized just after coming on, quickly converting after Saka’s pass was partially blocked.
The match turned into a back-and-forth battle, with Watkins, Odegaard, and Saka all creating chances, while Villa also had dangerous moments from Ian Maatsen and Donyell Malen.
Just when it looked like a draw was on the cards, Villa launched a final attack in stoppage time.
After pressing hard in Arsenal’s box, the ball fell to Buendía, who calmly scored the winner. The result put Villa in second place in the table, just three points behind Arsenal, and ended Arsenal’s 18-match unbeaten streak across all competitions in a dramatic fashion.
