2026 WORLD CUP PLAYOFFS – AFRICA ZONE: NIGERIA FILES A COMPLAINT WITH FIFA AGAINST DR CONGO

NIGERIA was knocked out of the race for the 2026 World Cup following their loss to the Democratic Republic of Congo. They are not willing to let this go, though. The Super Eagles were defeated in the African playoffs final on November 16th, after a penalty shootout that ended 1-1 in regular time and 4-3 on penalties. Now, they have decided to take their case to FIFA.

Through the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), officials in Abuja have officially lodged a complaint with FIFA, the world football governing body.

The issue is about the eligibility of some players from the DR Congo team in that important match. Nigerian officials claim these players don't meet the required standards under the relevant rules.

The NFF is specifically pointing to Congolese law, which does not allow for dual nationality.

However, according to the Nigerian federation, several DR Congo players hold two passports, which the Nigerian side believes is against their own laws and could mean those players shouldn't have been allowed to play in the match.
